Telegram to Introduce NFT Conversion for New Gifts Feature

Telegram has announced plans to introduce a feature allowing users to convert Gifts into non-fungible tokens (NFTs) later this year, although a specific launch date has not yet been provided.

In a recent update, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov shared details about the new Gifts feature, which includes animated images that users can display on their profiles or exchange for the platform’s in-app currency called Stars.

On October 5, Telegram unveiled the Gifts feature, enabling users to send congratulatory messages along with animated artwork to their contacts. Recipients can showcase these gifts on a dedicated Gifts tab in their profiles and choose to convert them into Stars.

Earlier in June, Telegram launched Stars, its in-app currency, allowing Mini Apps to accept payments for digital services. Users can also use Stars to support creators on the platform.

Regarding the NFT conversion, Durov mentioned in his Telegram channel that animated artwork associated with Gifts will soon support NFT conversions. He explained that some gifts will be in limited supply, and users will have the chance to convert these exclusive gifts into TON-based NFTs.

Once converted into blockchain-based digital collectibles, these limited-edition Gifts can be traded outside of Telegram. Durov stated, “Users will then be able to auction and trade these tokenized gifts, with ownership recorded on the blockchain.”

In addition to Telegram’s own offerings, the popular Web3 game Hamster Kombat has also announced plans to integrate NFT support. On September 25, the game revealed it would add NFTs as in-game assets in November.

Summary Review: Telegram is set to enhance its platform with a new Gifts feature that allows users to send animated artwork and convert certain gifts into NFTs later this year. This move reflects Telegram’s commitment to integrating blockchain technology and providing innovative ways for users to engage with digital assets. With the ability to trade these tokenized gifts outside the platform and support creators through Stars, Telegram aims to create a vibrant ecosystem for its users while tapping into the growing NFT market.
