Arthur Hayes’ Maelstrom fund has unveiled a new grant program aimed at boosting technical development for Bitcoin, potentially fueling innovation in Bitcoin-native DeFi, or BTCFi.

The new Bitcoin grant program from Maelstrom will provide developers with grants ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 over a 12-month period. Developers can receive up to $250,000 in total, thanks to the option to stack multiple grants.

The goal of the program is to support open-source Bitcoin developers and advance the network’s technical capabilities. According to the announcement:

“The program is designed to aid the technical development of Bitcoin and improve its resilience, scalability, censorship resistance, and privacy features. We are committed to supporting Bitcoin developers through an open and transparent grant process.”

Maelstrom is a family office fund focused on investing in decentralized technologies, led by CIO Arthur Hayes, the well-known crypto entrepreneur and former CEO of the BitMEX exchange.
