Tech-focused investment firm Coatue Management is set to invest $150 million into Bitcoin miner Hut 8 Corp. This move highlights how investors are looking to capitalize on the booming artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

On June 24, Hut 8 Corp. announced the significant investment from Coatue Management, owned by billionaire Philippe Laffont. The investment will be made through a convertible note.

Investing in Power

The convertible note will pay out 8% annually with an initial term of five years. Hut 8 has the option to extend this term for up to three additional one-year periods. The investment represents a senior unsecured obligation for Coatue Management.

Laffont expressed confidence in Hut 8‘s potential, stating that the Bitcoin miner is “well-positioned” to expand its computing capacity and seize new opportunities.

“We are committed to supporting innovators advancing AI and believe that compute capacity is crucial to unlocking significant growth across the ecosystem,” Laffont added.

The transaction is expected to be completed on or before July 11 of this year. On June 21, Hut 8 filed the investment agreement with Coatue with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
