Over 10% of gamers surveyed say they haven’t tried Web3 games because of difficult cryptocurrency wallets.
Many gamers are hesitant to explore Web3 games due to the complex nature of cryptocurrency wallets.
Web3 gaming platform Elympics teamed up with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) and PlayToEarn, a blockchain game data tracker, to create a report titled “The Future of Web3 Gaming is Competitive: Global Gaming Report 2024.” This report looks at the current state of blockchain gaming and surveyed 1,000 gamers worldwide for their opinions on Web3 games.
Why Wallets Are a Barrier for Gamers
In the survey, over 10% of participants indicated that complicated cryptocurrency wallets were the main reason they haven’t played blockchain games. Additionally, 7.3% of respondents mentioned that they don’t understand the value of Web3 gaming.
Another 2.4% of gamers expressed satisfaction with traditional Web2 gaming, while 9.1% said that blockchain games simply don’t interest them.
When asked what motivates them to play games, many cited rewards like airdrops and the chance to earn money. Competing with other players was also a popular reason.
In the report, Elympics CEO Michal Dabrowski noted that Web3 gaming has had trouble attracting mainstream gamers. However, he believes a major change is on the horizon. He stated, “The entry of infrastructure players like TON into the Web3 gaming space is bringing in strong social networks and engaged communities.”
Dabrowski added that as more developers create high-quality games within Web3, the interest and participation in this space are expected to grow.
