Former House Candidate and Partner of Ex-FTX Exec Launches Crypto Think Tank

Michelle Bond, whose 2022 congressional campaign was scrutinized in connection with her partner Ryan Salame’s criminal investigation, has announced the launch of a new crypto-focused think tank in Washington, DC.

On June 20, Bond revealed she had helped establish the think tank Digital Future. According to her LinkedIn profile, this think tank is one of her first professional ventures since the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Contributions to her 2022 U.S. House of Representatives campaign became part of the charges against her partner, Ryan Salame, the former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets.

Bond stated that Digital Future aims to create a “favorable regulatory environment” for financial technology, digital assets, and artificial intelligence (AI) in the United States. She emphasized that U.S. lawmakers have yet to pass substantial legislation on crypto and AI.

Before FTX’s collapse, Bond was the CEO of the Association for Digital Asset Markets. Since 2023, she has also been the CEO of Capitol Advisory, a consulting firm that assists fintech companies with regulatory, legal, and public policy issues. Additionally, she served as counsel for the U.S. Senate Banking Committee from 2011 to 2012.

The precise timing of the think tank’s launch is unclear. With less than five months until the U.S. presidential election and many state primaries in June, the think tank’s efforts may coincide with significant political events. Cointelegraph reached out to Digital Future for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

Summary Review: Bond’s establishment of the Digital Future think tank marks a significant move in the ongoing efforts to shape regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies in the U.S. This initiative could play a crucial role in addressing the current legislative gaps in the crypto and AI sectors, especially as the country navigates through its complex political landscape in the lead-up to the presidential election.
