Meta Reportedly Developing Its Own AI-Powered Search Engine

Meta is reportedly planning to build an AI-powered search engine to reduce its reliance on search services from companies like Google and Microsoft. This new search tool aims to deliver conversational, AI-driven summaries of recent news and events directly to users through Meta’s chatbot, integrated within Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, according to an Oct. 28 report by The Information.

To support this, Meta has assembled an engineering team that has spent the last eight months building a specialized database of information for the project. Currently, Meta’s chatbot relies on Google and Bing to answer user queries.

Meta’s move aligns with similar initiatives in the tech industry. OpenAI, for example, introduced “SearchGPT” in July, aiming to integrate search into its ChatGPT platform. Likewise, Apple is working on its own AI tools to eventually replace some of Google’s search features.

Most recently, Meta announced a partnership with Reuters on Oct. 25, bringing AIpowered chat functions to news content on its platforms. This partnership marks Meta’s first significant involvement with news since several years ago.

Summary Review: Meta is developing an AIpowered search engine to reduce its dependency on Google and Bing, delivering real-time, conversational news summaries through its chatbot. Following other tech giants like OpenAI and Apple, Meta’s move is part of a broader industry trend towards independent AI-driven search options.
