Remilia Hacker Funnels $4.3M Through Tornado Cash

In a recent development, the hacker behind the $4.3 million theft from Remilia DAO in March has laundered the stolen assets through Tornado Cash, a cryptocurrency mixer.

On June 17, blockchain analysis firm CertiK reported that 1,209.5 Ether, valued at approximately $4.3 million, was funneled into Tornado Cash. CertiK traced these funds back to several addresses linked to the Remilia hack that occurred on March 16.

Remilia DAO is known for managing the Milady Maker non-fungible token (NFT) collection.

Hacker Liquidates Milady NFTs

Three months after the Remilia hack, the stolen crypto assets were moved to the mixing service. On March 16, Krishna Okhandiar, also known as Charlotte Fang, the founder of Remilia and Milady, reported the hack. Substantial amounts of ETH and NFTs were transferred to a wallet, which subsequently liquidated the assets.

The incident was first brought to light by a Twitter account named Dumpster DAO, which shared a screenshot of the Remilia founder’s report on the hack. The account also posted the address that received the assets from Remilia-related wallets.

Blockchain data revealed that this address sold NFTs linked to Milady, including staked NFTx assets, and transferred $1 million in ETH to another address.

Summary Review: The movement of stolen assets through Tornado Cash highlights the ongoing challenges in tracking and recovering stolen crypto. The Remilia hack underscores the importance of enhanced security measures for DAOs and NFT projects to protect against such exploits in the future.
